Alpha in fullscreen / windowed mode

right now i experience strange time differences by blitting a surface with
alpha value in using fullscreen / windowed mode under win2k.
same code (no matter what bits per pixel or hw/sw-surface) does a blit
of a transparent surface in about 0-1 ms in windowed mode, but
takes about 55 ms in fullscreen mode (800x600).

i spend hours in tracking it down but still cant see what the reason
for this is (different systems, same problem).

hopefully the problem is right between my ears, i can post the code if
necessary but still hoping someone had a problem like this before.

Sounds like it’s using vsync in fullscreen mode - which explains your timing
