Alsa current version

Is there any plans to upgrade to current Alsa support?
actually I’m not sure if alsa-stable API matches alsa-0.9.0 beta, but
SDL’s support for alsa sound driver doesn’t compile with new alsa lib.

Oh, I -can- send error logs if anyone wants, but basically it’s a whole
bunch of changes to the configuration api (snd_pcm_channel_params_t is
gone for instance).
This isn’t a -end-of-world- problem for me, OSS backwards compatibility,
ESD, and artsd support all work fine. Which is cool since I’m using
gcc-3.1 and alsa’s -finally- started working again
(folks: KDE-2 doesn’t mix very well with GCC-3.0+ - but for some reason
gcc-3.1-current cvs is way more stable than 3.0

G’day, eh?

I hacked for the latest ALSA recently.
Please try the attached patch. It’s for SDL 1.2.3.
You can specify the pcm device name via SDL_PCM_DEVICE environment
variable. As default SDL uses hw:0,0 to avoid rate/channel
conversion on alsa-lib.

Checked out with SDL current CVS (~5am Jan 3/2002) - and it seems to work
just fine from this end. I still don’t have playback from multiple
soundcards but that looks like an Alsa issue as I have yet to get it
working from any of the test apps for libalsa either… wry grin.

But - works -beautifully-. And looks noninvasive. So I vote this goes in
 (if it hasn’t already)

heh sorry for the delay, was out of town and out of email accessibility
for a bit…
