I haven’t noticed any difference from XKobo - but of course, something
might be broken. Are they beginning to get tough?

and it lack double-screen option (it is too small !)

Well, there is the new full-screen option OTOH, if that works on your
system. (’-fullscreen’ command line option - no options menu yet.)

However, if you’re running X, you’ll most probably have to add some
modelines to get resolutions below 640x480. I have a set for various low
resolutions (for arcade games mostly) from 256x200 or something and up,
but not on this machine…

But this great !!!

Thanks!

And when you’re tired of the 50 levels, I’ll release “Kobo II”, and
you’ll get fired, divorced, lose your home and so on, if you haven’t
already at that time.

Hi David,
I downloaded the Windows binary and extracted it to a direcory and
tried to run it but the screen flashes and the game ends. Shoule I send
you the log file.

BTW, I am running Win2000 with the latest SDL 1.2.2 on a K6 III 450.
Are there any other DLLs I should have?

Thanks,

Dominique

Those could be interesting - the engine is pretty verbose.

You need most of the DLLs included in the SDL_image package (for png
support), but nothing else AFAIK.

Is there anything special to worry about for Win2k?

Yeah, that’s what I suspected. I think you need png.dll and zlib.dll to
load PNGs, but I don’t have a system handy where I can check.

personally i don’t have *png.dll on my system though SDL-Kobo work…
(i have SDL_image 1.2.? and SDL 1.2.1)

personally i don’t believe it is a dll problem as if there is such
problem, this arrive at link time, and the windows exec launcher pop-up
an alert panel telling which dll cause trouble…

Yeah, it usually just says which DLL is missing… Are all image files
unpacked, and in the same directory as the exe? You should have these
files:

bigship.pcx
bullets.pcx
font2s.png
frame.png
logo-ng-yellow.png
scores/
screen.png
skobo.exe
sprites.pcx

(The score’s directory in non-critical - the game should run without it,
but won’t save your highscore. Also, frame.gif is never used in this
version.)

Anyway, can you please post the stderr and stdout files?

Is it normal you start at the last played stage instead of the first one? BTW,
I’m at stage 12.

Yes. It’s a remainder of the user based score system; each user has
his/her own score file, which also stores the number of the last level
completed. (You can select levels up to the one after the one you’ve
completed with +/-.)

BTW, I’m at stage 12.

I’m at 23 or something, IIRC. Beginning to get tough.

Hi David,
The stderr file reads as follows…
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

The stdout file reads as follows…
Setting period to 30.000000 ms.
Opening engine…
Opening screen…
Loading sprites sprites.pcx (bank 0; 16x16)… Ok. (256 frames)
Loading sprites bullets.pcx (bank 1; 8x8)… Ok. (8 frames)
Loading sprites bigship.pcx (bank 2; 32x32)… Ok. (1 frames)
Loading image frame.png (bank 17)…

The files I have in my directory are…
skobo.exe
bigship.pcx
bullets.pcx
font2s.png
frame.gif
frame.png
logo-ng-yellow.png
screen.png
sprites.pcx
and the scores directory.

curious, you could have a problem with your archive and get a corrupted
image file ?
who knows ?
do you try to download it again ?

BTW i fastly remember my old kobo skill, mmhh… level 33 is …
interesting…

Please follow up discusssion and bug reports for specific games to the
author directly. Mailing this information to the SDL list is offtopic.

There’s no real install target yet. I’m working on it.

For now, the images should be where the executable is (Windoze style),
and the score file directory should be wherever “config.h” says - another
temporary kludge. (The original game used xmkmf, and I’ve kept the
"passive" config.h pretty much as it was.)
