Announcing a new mailing list

Announcing SDLPLUS, a new mail list for discussion of useful addons
for SDL that are higher level than the core SDL library, like widgets,
Mesa integration, mixers, etc.

This list is a good forum for sharing code that doesn’t necessarily
belong in SDL, but is really useful anyway.

To subscribe, send e-mail to sdlplus-request at surfnetcity.com.au
Once you have confirmed your subscription to the list, you can send
e-mail to it via sdlplus at surfnetcity.com.au

To unsubscribe from either the current or the new list, send e-mail to
"listname"-unsubscribe at surfnetcity.com.au, where “listname” is the name
of the list you want to unsubscribe from.

These two lists are to be complementary, one for core SDL, and one for
projects and add-ons. I will be subscribed to both.

See ya!

Ok, this is probably getting confusing for people now, so I’ll post a small
clarification (Please read, even if you are a god and know everything):

There are 3 SDL mailing lists:

sdl_announce at surfnetcity.com.au - Announcement only list (eg. no discussion,
Sam will post announcements of new releases etc.)

sdl at surfnetcity.com.au - Discussion of the SDL core library.

sdlplus at surfnetcity.com.au - Discussion of non-core SDL extentions (eg. Widgets,
file loaders etc.)

Do NOT post to sdl_announce, only Sam is allowed to do that.

Newbe(ish) questions are not out of place on the sdl or sdlplus lists, so long
as they are sent to the correct list. (eg. a question on how to initialise SDL
belongs on the sdl list, while a question on how to use networking in SDL apps
belongs on the sdlplus list)

To subscribe to any list, send a message to
<[LISTNAME]-subscribe at surfnetcity.com.au>

To unsubscribe to any list, send a message to
<[LISTNAME]-unsubscribe at surfnetcity.com.au>

If you are in trouble, send a message to
<[LISTNAME]-help at surfnetcity.com.au>

The list admin is a very competant computer, so do what it tells you to do -
the machine is much smarter when it comes to E-Mail than you are

Also, I don’t want to see flaming on any of the lists. Surf Net City kindly
donated these lists to the SDL project, as they support free software in any
way possible (if I ask them to in the right way ;-). It is a waste of their
resources sending flames, as it needs to send a copy of your flame to every
person on the list. I’m not going to moderate the lists, but if flames start
becoming frequent, I might have to ban people from the lists for everybody’s
sake. (Sam and I agreed that it’s not necessary to go that far yet)

You’ve been a civilised bunch so-far, please think twice before sending, as
I’ve seen projects on the brink of death due to uncivilised behaviour on the
mailing lists.

Oh, and this message was not aimed at anyone in particular, so if you are taking
it personally, maybe you should be thinking three times (or more) before
posting to any of the lists ;-)On Tue, Nov 03, 1998 at 03:58:40PM -0800, Sam Lantinga wrote:
