aRts support for SDL

I’ve written some aRts support for SDL. aRts is the sound system used by
KDE, with artsd serving the same function esd does for esound users. It’d
be nice if this were included in a future version of SDL. Is there anyone
in particular I should send the diffs to?

Please cc any replies directly to me, because I’m not sure if I subscribed
to the list properly, and the list archive is too big to be useful.–

Why did KDE use aRts when esd existed? Just to be different, or is
there a more technical reason? On Wed, Nov 01, 2000 at 02:26:19PM -0800, Neil Stevens wrote:

Why to use Linux? Windows exist.

Just joking. esd is for Gnome.
KDE exist first, ask gnome group.

Yes, but did aRTS exist before esd?On Thu, Nov 02, 2000 at 12:45:00AM +0100, MIGUEL ANGEL BLANCH LARDIN wrote:

Go ahead and send them to me. I’ll be happy to include them.

See ya!

But aRts on KDE arrived after esd on Gnome,
and I used esd with KDE. aRts is actually a
software synthesizer, not only a sound proxy.
I don’t use esd or aRts because my sound
driver is doing well without a sound proxy.

Why use our brains? There must be someone who could think it for us…ahh…
I remember… his name was INTEL  or was it AMD ?On Thursday 02 November 2000 03:50, you wrote:

Yeah… However, I have not yet succeeded in getting him to figure out what to
do for himself. He’s like a somewhat retarded child, which can’t seem to play
without being shown how to… Any ideas?

Well, we have to use our brains for something! (As if we didn’t have enough
problems already…

Good idea! (I hope it’s not dangerous for geeks to do so…)

aRts is powerful and flexible beyond comparizon with esd. It was originally a
kind of softsynth engine with plugin support.

BTW, esd and aRts aren’t enough. I’m working on another similar system, aimed
at professional low latency audio systems, and there are yet others that don’t
find any of these three designs approriate for their applications.

That’s just the way it is; Choice is Good, and One Size Does Not Fit All.
