BeOS and SDL port

Yo!
The new SDL libs for BeOS broke compatibility with the previous version and
now I can’t run SDLQuake…
When you port the libs on BeOS, don’t just compile them, but test them
too… And, I know from discussions I had on the IRC with certain developers
that the BeOS SDL port can be optimized a lot more… (I am getting only 12
fps on my BeOS SDLquake with a dual Celeron 433…)

Thanks,
Eugenia.—

On that topic: Anyone with BeOS tried to compile gltron on BeOS? I’d like
to post a binary on my webpage.

Hi.
Thanks for the reply.

Which new libs and which previous version?

I am not sure. The ones before the 1.1.1 (till about 2 weeks ago)

Have you tested SDLQuake? http://www.bebits.com/app/696/

mm… I wish I could program those stuff ! :frowning:
If I could, I would have help you!

However, thanks for bringing BDirectWindow support to BeOS with the new
release!

Thanks,
Eugenia.

No, as far as I know. I will contact some friends of mine, to compile this
for ya. I hope that it will be an easy task…

Er, I don’t mean to sound obnoxious, but have you thought about fixing
them yourself? Or perhaps these “certain developers”?

Ahh. SDL 1.0.x and SDL 1.1.1 are not binary compatible.

SDLQuake needs to be recompiled. I didn’t know it was on bebits.

My pleasure. It’s still not completely done. If anyone wants to volunteer,
you are more than welcome.

Oh, c’mon!
I can’t program those stuff! The most difficult program I ever made was to
create a little gfx pacman demo for DOS in C.
You don’t ask ladies to do those stuff.
Oh, and btw, Michael, I updated my news post on BeNews.com, adding a link to
your recent interview about OpenAL!
Anyones’ caring to port OpenAL to BeOS? We need it badly!

Thanks,

Can you get BeOS for free yet? If I had a copy I’d consider doing
it…

Wow!! I love you man! (don’t tell my boyfriend)
I will email you the very moment that Free BeOS 5 will be out for
downloading. It wouldn’t be more than 10-15 days from now really…

Thanks,
Eugenia.

I get free copies in the mail by registering as a developer on the
Be web site.

Just my luck, I rush over to Be’s Developer Support area to signup and
their not taking any more developers (at least for now)!

Oh well, the wait continues :)!

We have a copy in-house Michael.

Also, if we get the SDL support up to snuff, it would work immediately.

See ya!

Hi,
I’m interested in putting text labels in my SDL applications but
I’m terrified to use Sam’s sdl_ttf stuff from the SDL site because of
the concern over TrueType patents. Does anyone know of another viable font
solution? Personally, I’ve been looking at the old CHR files that the
Borland Graphics Interface used. I’ve managed to find quite a few of them
out there on the web and I even dug up the file format. Does anyone know
if there are any legal problems with decoding BGI CHR files, as there
apparently are with TTF files? If not, would CHR be a worthwhile thing to
implement?

Thanks...

Heheh, okay okay.
I may have some time later today to work on this (RT2 patch going out)

There also is the thing of what kind of developer you choose to be
for BeOs, If you choose enthusiast (which I did a month or so ago) it
did stipulate that you have to buy your own copy of BeOs and would not
get it provided unless you choose professional? or buisness? developer
options which cost money while the enthusiast does not. Myself I’m
going to wait until BeOs 5 is out before deciding if I should buy the
cd or just use the download version.=====

Cool ! Michael, get on with it!
However, from what I ve heard, I must say that R5 is looking better than
R4.5

I’m looking forward to it.

Ok, here is the deal! You make OpenAL and SDL to work ok with BeOS, and I
will make you a big chocolate cake and send it to Loki!
Or, a big, nice article on BeNews!! (10,000 visitors a day)

You got it!
