A great challenge for all SDL coders: a great media center application,
completely open-source based, is suffering from the hardware limitations of the
originating platform, the XBOX:
XBMC official site: http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/
The package is awesome, but the HW platform is becoming more and more a problem
since the raw power is limited and new video standards (x264) are bringing the
XBOX to its knees.
A limited Windows port has been implemented, but it’s just a “smart mockup” for
skin coders (see website). The main obstacle is the XBOX SDK has to be chosen
for the development, with its specific DirectX implementation.
Injecting SDL into the project would bring portability to an incredibly powerful
package, allowing the development of new features (i.e. TV) that are lacking
from the current media center.
