Cant get SDL-1.1.7 running under SuSE 7.0

I just cant get SDL-1.1.7 running under SuSE 7.0 (Matrox-Mystique)
compiling and Installing worked but if I run an program nothing happens.
I stay in the shell,there are no error messages and pressing ctrl-c
quits the program.
but testver and loopwave work, so I think its the graphics which make the
problems.
what might be wrong.

I believe it’s a bug in the SuSE shipped X libraries. Try precompiled
binaries instead of compiling it yourself.
