DGA vs openGL

Hi !

A little newbie question: Under X11 using DGA mode, is there any hardware
acceleration
or the DGA mode only gives a direct access to the framebuffer ? I want to
use SDL to
develop a little test which has to run in a VIA savage chipset platform and
i don’t want to
bypass the hardware acceleration capabilities. Which mode is better: DGA,
DRI or
openGL ?

Are there some good links to information related to this kind of stuff ?

Any comment is welcome!
Thanks,

slightly rusty on this, but I think you’ve got it…
as long as you’ve got the program running as root.
Otherwise, it dosn’t do jack.

Of course you don’t :).

Well of course it all depends on the situation.
DGA requires running as root, and being a bit more
direct, also lets you fuck over your computer faster.
DRI does some stuff, including provide the interface
(with correct drivers from the card vendor of course)
for OpenGL H/W acceleration.

Are there some good links to information related to
this kind of stuff ?

uhm…
