DirecX version and mpge-2 player for windows XP or NT embedded

Which version of DirectX does SDL use?
I’m thinking on using WIndows XP embedded, so as it includes DirectX8, I
would like to know whether SDL takes advantages of that.
Besides I also need to play mpeg-2 videos in the same platform (XP). I’ve
been told that libmpeg2 is a good option for that, is it the only option?

Which version of DirectX does SDL use?

SDL works in the DirectX 5 and newer runtime environments.
