Well, first I don’t want to be rude but it’s not the right list to post this
question, you should post on the list of the program that you’re trying to
compile or send an email to the author of that program if it has no list.

The /dev/dsp file is the OSS file to access the audio card (if I’m not wrong
because is bed time =) ), you should check first that you have this file on
your system. If not, you should create such file but it depends on the sound
system you are using if any (ALSA, OSS/Free, etc…)

But your best chance is to check if the program has some kind of support
(mailing list, author email address, etc…) to see how you can solve this
problem. You could try compiling the programm without sound support to see if
it still fails for example.

Greettings.
Ernesto.

If on linux/FreeBSD you need to use MAKEDEV in /dev.

If you are using FreeBSD 5.0 DP1 you just need to load your soundcard module
and its devfs will pick it up and add it with the appropriate permissions.

Linux can probably be set up to do this too.
