FYI, thought you might like to know that I was able to use MSYS and  
MinGW native utilities to build the Win32/MinGW version of SDL-1.2.3 on  
a Win32 platform just doing a `…/configure && gmake MAKE=gmake’. See  
[mingw.sf.net](http://mingw.sf.net) for more details.
