[Fwd: Sarien/SDL - Testing Report]

I reported this problem some time ago, and here is some extra
information about it. Sarien (http://agi.helllabs.org) runs perfectly
with SDL in Linux/X11, but fails miserably in Windows. Clues anyone?

I removed the binary win32 package from the site because it failed in
my test in a win98 box at school, and I assumed it was broken. It was
quite a surprise for me that it worked for Ian Schmidt. In the machine
I tested it just crashed after complaining about “Can’t open window”.

I could not get the program to work at all. I got that same “Can’t open
window” message, with a system fault. I tried several things to fix it,
the first being to get a new version of the SDL drivers. No matter
which
version I tried, Sarien gave me a message about not being able to find a
certain sound function in the SDL driver libraries.

I tried to go into the source and fix the problem, but not having any
experience with DirectX, I didn’t make much headway there. Sarien
wouldn’t run on NT either, but that’s no surprise since NT doesn’t work
well with DirectX drivers.

It sounds like someone has an old SDL library in /windows/system.
