Just wondering if I missed a news release somewhere…
Came across “Galaxy Gameworks” which is apparently charging $500.00
for a commercial license to SDL 1.3
The commercial license grants you personal e-mail support as well as
SDL for the iPhone.
The language on the “about” page seems to imply that Sam runs Galaxy
Gameworks, yet nowhere on any of his pages I’ve found on google does
he mention “GG”…

Apple doesn’t allow third party frame works to be dynamically linked in for
iPhone dev.
The solution is for Sam to offer SDL under a non LGPL license for a fee that
also happens to get you extra support and the ability to statically link
your application

Just two theoretical questions:
Statically linking a LGPL library to a GPL application is OK? Does Apple
allow GPL Software on it’s iPhones?
That’s awesome news though about it being available for the AppStore!

FYI the cost of an iphone only distribution license is $100,
This is basically what I’m planning to use once my game gets a little
more fun. The linux and windows releases (if I do them) will be
dynamically linked.
If no-one buys my iphone game i’ll probably release it all under a bsd
license
This is something Sam had to set up because Apple has a licensing
provision where you can’t use DLLs to develop iPhone apps, and it’s
very difficult to distribute a commercial app under the terms of the
LGPL without using DLLs. So he set this up as an alternative option
so that people can use SDL in iPhone apps without being subject to the
LGPL.
