I enjoyed it. Good overview of intro developer requirements from
someone who would know. It was cool to hear mention of Bob and Eric,
too.

Hey! thanks for the shout out and kind words!

Good interview. I found myself being very sympathetic when you were
talking about math. It sounds like I took more math in college than
you, and yet, I feel exactly the same way. Almost every project I do I
wind up spending a big chunk of time researching, learning, and
relearning the math I need for the project.

I was also very interested in your comments about using SDL to learn
game programming. I’ve used SDL in many classes and SDL works very
well in a classroom situation. The main advantage is that every class
I’ve ever taught has some Windows people, some Mac people, and at
least one Linux person. Using SDL lets me teach using an API and
example code that works on all those platforms. Without something like
SDL I would have to teach a Windows class, a Mac class, and a Linux
class.

OTOH, I can see how a beginner working on their own would be better
off using a scripting language with a built in media API (something
like flash). When you are making that first big step I like to stick
to the one book rule. That is, it is just a whole lot easier if
everything you need to learn is in one book. The only trouble with
that approach is that some people never move past that one book
