How to avoid mouse hangs when SDL program crashes?

Hi,

When a SDL program crashes, my mouse pointer is hung. I must restart X
to fix the problem. Two questions:

  1. Is this a problem that others have experienced?

  2. What are the possible causes of this?

My XFree86 version is 4.3.0, but it has happened with previous X server
versions as well.
