I need a image editor that can dither 32bit images for use in 16bit color

In my app, I use 16bit color (the device I’m designing it can’t do any better)
and the images are rendered in Inkscape from SVG. When gradients are used, this
results in color banding. I need a program that can dither the 32bit images for
me. Does anyone know of one? I cannot find anything.

You don’t say what platform you require software for.

Paint Shop Pro will do this on Windows. I would imagine that GIMP on
Linux does it too.

Pete.

Try the ‘5_6_5 Filter’ plugin found on this page:

There are versions for Mac and Windows.

GIMP runs on Windows (and Mac) as well, if you want to give it a try...

Hehe, yeah I did forget to mention I’m running Windoze.

That photoshop filter does the job though, thanks to Irfanview’s 8BF
support (I cant afford photoshop).
