Well, OpenProjects is at it again. They’re trying to switch to their
custom ircd based on ircd-hybrid, the ircd used by most of Efnet. They
have declined advice from developers of hybrid, irc clients, and veteran
irc users. Tonight was their fourth basically untested and disasterous
upgrade attempt. We expect they will either abort the upgrade or declare
it a success and decide that anything broken is not their problem.
They’ll be missing a few users though. OPN is used by people because it’s
generally a good network without the war zone feeling one gets using efnet
servers and channels. Still, battling the server software is no different
than battling hostile users. As a result, I’ve created #SDL on AnyNet
(irc.anynet.org), and hopefully in a day or two the channel will actually
be in working order.
The channel is in no way official and I’ve not really consulted with
anybody before doing it. |Rain| (admin of the main hub) is hoping to have
services online soon and if the chanops of the OPN channel want it at that
point, they’re welcome to it. An unstable irc network is no use to
anybody.–

“No, there’s free beer.”
“Uh-oh, Stallman’s gonna be pissed…”
