Keyboard events w/ fbcon driver

Howdy folks…

We’re using the fbcon display under SDL and noticed when using the keyboard
all the keysyms are zero. We get the key events (up & down) and the
scancodes are correct but the translation to the keysyms doesn’t seem to be
happening.

I’ve traced this down to the function “FB_vgainitkeymaps” in
src/video/fbcon/SDL_fbevents.c where it looks like the ioctl for KDGKBENT
is always failing.

Anyone know why this ioctl doesn’t work??? Some kernal config? Some other
config?

We’re running on redhat 7.1 with SDL-1.1.7. (kinda old I know)…

Anyway, any infor would be greatly appreciated…

Have you tried SDL 1.2.3?
