"Listening" to audio

Is there an easy way to “listen to” (ie, grab information about) the sound
being played by SDL and/or the mixer libraries?

My main purpose would be to do some visual effects based on the music being
played (regardless of what the MOD is).

Not now, but it would be trivial to modify the mixer to do that.
Just add a callback that is called with the audio data after everything
is mixed.
