I'm sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times before,
or if it’s in the FAQ (I didn’t find an answer there, though).
I need a loader for object files (including textures), as exported from
3D studio max, that I can later use in an OpenGL scene. Can you point
me to any libraries that allow me to do that?

Hi everybody,

Thanks a lot in advance!

Why dont you try some other formats …like Wavefront objects … i
implemented a loader in 3 days…
Wavefront objects a basically ASCII descriptions of all vertexes texture
coords & normals and list of triangles
in which all vertexes, etc are indexed … VERY SIMPLE
(Milkshape3D does an excellent job on converting 3D-formats)

Milkshape crashes the fu-- out of my system. And my friends also. Do they
not test it on Windows 2000 Pro? No application should ever produce an
access violation error. Its a matter of checking for NULL of pointers and
mallocs. Grr!! I tried 3 different versions also. I have a Celeron 400 w/
384 megs of RAM and Voodoo3, my friend has a Tbird 600mhz with GeForce2 DDR
32MB. Actually it gets we’ll weird, it says “Out of virtual memory”, and
stuff just doenst work then it gives an access vio. error. Just love those
rock-hard stable programs.
Anyone know any other 3d modelers that have their file format published (and
simple to import), plus I can afford for say < $100, that doesnt suck?
(Sorry OT).
Thx.

If you poke around the GLUT sources, there is an OBJ loader (doesn’t support
the texture maps, but it’s easy to add) in a source sample called “smooth”.> ----- Original Message -----
