My SDL game, Seventh Sense, is available for download

Hi folks!

I recently completed a really ambitious project (for me, an amateur
programmer, anyway!) which uses SDL, along with physfs, and libcurl. It is
called Seventh Sense, and anyone who has read the Lone Wolf
choose-your-own-adventure books will find it interesting. Even if you
haven’t read them, you will probably still enjoy the program.

Basically, it’s an automated game-state tracker for reading the Project Aon
editions of the Lone Wolf adventures written by Joe Dever in the 80’s. (He
gave his permission for them to be published at the site www.projectaon.org)
My program provides automated combat/random numbers, action chart/stats
display, saving/loading, and a variety of House rules which can be used to
make the game easier or harder.

With the current version of my program, one can read through the first 5
books, which is the entire first series of adventures as the single
surviving Kai Lord warrior monk, Lone Wolf. The writing of Joe Dever is very
imaginative and evocative, with lots of plot twists. I highly recommend the
books.

You can visit the homepage of my program here :
http://www.projectaon.org/staff/david/

Currently, it is Windows only, but works fine in Linux under the Wine
program. Native Linux support and full open source is in the works…

Comments, etc. are welcome! Thanks!

That’s so cool! I used to love those books when I was a kid… I even considered writing a “choose your own adventure” game :stuck_out_tongue:

Too bad I can’t be bothered running Wine now… I will check it out under my Virtual Machine, but I only use it when it’s absolutely needed, so I am definitely looking forward for a *nix port… Or at least the source code

very cool. Thank you! Added to my bookmarks for later.

At first I was all "oh noes! stealing someone’s copyrighted materials,"
then I saw the permission granted to use it. That’s awesome.

Hi David

Your game looks really nice. But i have a questions for you. I use a
MAC to create my projects with SDL but i can’t execute any “game”. I
compiled my game using the terminal but obtain a warning message
talking about “This application, or a library it uses, is using
NSQuickDrawView, which has been deprecated. Apps should cease use of
QuickDraw and move to Quartz.” but i can’t change the link to Quartz
and can’t load any image. I use the default library procedure
SDL_LoadBMP or the plugin library SDL_image to load other kind of
images. In both cases i obtain the same result. I want to know if you
use Xcode to compile or do something special.

Thanks

Best regards
Jorge

Jorge,
I don’t actually have a Mac - so, I didn’t compile it. But I believe the
package was compiled using GNU make/GCC, which is a part of Xcode. You can
get a free ADC membership in order to download those tools for the Mac.
Sorry I can’t be more help…
