New official SDL logo contest

Hello,

as you (maybe) already know (see 20040111191425.GA17724 at linuxstuff.de),
I started to sell some SDL merchendise stuff on
http://www.cafepress.com/libsdl and donate the complete profit to
Sam’s SDL fund.

While setting up this shop, I talked a bit with Sam about the
SDL logo and its usage. And we decided to search a new official
logo for SDL.

We’d like to find a logo that:

  • looks really good
  • is more representive than the old one
  • is available in higher resolutions (vectorized prefered,
but 1600x1200px as png would also be great)
  • white/lucent background prefered (better for reproduction,
    tshirts, reseller boxes, websites, etc)

To do this more coordinated this time, I would say that
we collect the logo submissions up to 01. Feb. 2004 (3 weeks).

I will collect the submissions on http://www.libsdl.de/contest
Please send all submissions to contest at libsdl.de

After that 3 weeks, we will start the election; I’ll post more
informations about this when submission time is over.

So, if you want to design the new and official SDL Logo,
seeing your logo on websites, tshirts and software: this
is your chance

I’d like to here of you…

Ciao–
Marco

In the end it doesn’t really matter, but I personally think
(nearly) squared logos in vectorized or big resolutions are better.

I have a submission (and have ideas for a few more, if you don’t mind
multible submissions), but what would you prefer to be sent in: high-res
(300dpi, suitable for CafePress), low-res (150dpi, suitable for putting on
that site), or really-low-res (72dpi, suitable for a webpage logo), or all
three (if this one, what compession scheme would you prefer, if any? [ACE,
ZIP, and GzTar all weigh in at ~171kb, so it makes no difference to me])?

No, absolutely not. You can submit as much as you want.

but what would you prefer to be sent in: high-res

You can send me the 150dpi version, but it should be possible to you to
create high-resolution images of your logo if you win.

Thank you.

should the logos be simple Vector?

anything special about the logo?
does it need to be “readable” from far distance (e.g. very small size)?
does it need to be displayable in black and white only while not losing
its major appereance?

thanks–

ionas

I do all my image work in high-res. That way, you can scale it to meet the
needs of any destination medium. :stuck_out_tongue:
