[OT] bit off Topic - Sound problems while testing with SDL in lin ux

Sorry to post this here, but |'m really frustrated.
while testing using mandrake 8.0 without X , then with X
I keep having to
su
chmod 660 /dev/dsp
something in X keeps changing /dev/dsp to rw------- (600)
the user/group is left as audio
ie for me it would be
/dev/dsp rw------- clive audio …
which really doesn’t help much as soon as I switch users

anyone have any ideas as to which to naughty app is or how I can prevernt
this ?

thanks

Lowering Mandrake’s security level might help. The program to switch the
security level is probably called drak[something].
