I have decided to port the opengl app I am developing to sdl as it
is portable to windows and has built in sound support.
I have a problem that the setting of the camera position
works fine with straight opengl but is broken on my sdl version.
I have undoubtedly forgotten something as this is pretty basic
and opengl does work with sdl (??) .

very frustrating … although on past experience the
illumination will occur two mins after I post this
