Problems with audio init while xmms is running

Hi all,

I have a strange problem with initializing the audio subsystem while
xmms is running.

The SDL application does not start while xmms is running so I always
have to end xmms.

Any ideas (or code snippets) how to fix this?

System is Linux 2.4

These are the last lines I traced:
access("/etc/asound.conf", R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
access("/home/hauke/.asoundrc", R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or
directory)
open("/dev/snd/controlC0", O_RDONLY) = 7
close(7) = 0
open("/dev/snd/controlC0", O_RDWR) = 7
ioctl(7, USBDEVFS_CONTROL, 0xbfffebcc) = 0
ioctl(7, 0x40045532, 0xbfffebf4) = 0
open("/dev/snd/pcmC0D0p", O_RDWR <unfinished …>

Thanks and kind regards,

Hi!

The SDL application does not start while xmms is running so I always
have to end xmms.

If you are using KDE anyways configuring both, XMMS and SDL to use ARTS might
do the trick.

And give you lots of latency.

Well, that’s the point:
Some people use KDE, others use Gnome and I myself use fvwm1.
So some people didn’t install artsd some had…

I will discuss the use of artsd with the project leader

Might be true, but acutally I have never had a problem with that.
