Reteiving Pallete information

hi all,
A member of the JEDI-SDL mailing list is trying to create a fire
effect involving an image, and he would like SDL to pick up the Palette
information that is stored in the bitmap that is being loaded when it
does the fire effect. Is there anyway of using the Palette information
of a bitmap to do this sort of thing. I hope I’ve explained this well.
