SDL 1.1 CVS snapshots on Web server / Mandrake cooker/contrib

Hi,

Call me a glutton for punishment, but I'm regularly building RPMs of the

SDL snapshots. Then again, there is that “do not distribute” on the top of the
1.1 CVS snapshot download page.

Am I still allowed to put those RPMs on my own web pages?

On the other hand, shall I upload the to Mandrake contrib, with the

implicit understanding that Mandrake cooker is for testing only? I could even
add a warning to the RPM description.

Regards,
	Hakan--

SDL’s license is the LGPL, so you are allowed to put those RPMs on your
web page. But you might want to warn the ‘downloader’ that these are
unreleased snapshots or beta or stuff like this…–

Yes, I know that I’m legally allowed to do nearly whatever the fsck I
want with SDL as long as I supply the sources, but it would be nice if Sam
(as the primary author) added an “make it so”. It’s a kind of “respecting the
wishes of the authors” stuff

Thank you. SDL 1.1 is still in flux, so I would appreciate it if you do
not distribute RPMs on your website - it tends to get installed and then
people wonder why software that is supposed to work with the release of
SDL doesn’t work with thier “install”.

However, if you have somewhere private that you want to direct friends to,
or if there is an “unstable not-for-redistribution software” section of the
Mandrake distribution, then putting it there is fine.

You’ll notice that the SDL 1.1 code is being updated every day or two,
with important bug fixes, etc.

The good news is there is only one major piece that I want to do before
releasing SDL 1.1.0, and that is config variables. These should be done
in a few days.

See ya!
