Sdl audio capture capabilities

hey everyone, i just joined the mailing list so
forgive me if i’m not doing this properly.
I’m currently working on a voip application and am
looking for a cross platform api or sdk that would
enable me to capture audio from the line in jack or
even a usb port (if possible) and process it. i’ve
searched all over but to no avail. i want to make sure
that i’m not missing anything and that sdl trully
cannot capture input from line in on the soundcard. it
seems i’m only able to perform operations on already
existing audio files. is this correct?
I dread writing platform dependant code, and so was
looking for an alternative.
thank you all kindly,

thanks for our reply bill, i actually checked port
audio before you suggested and it seems to be what i
want. I don’t need all the video options and such for
now.
thank you all very much.
