SDL blanks out screen when running SDL testoverlay

I submitted this problem some time ago and I didn’t get an answer, so
I’m resubmitting the question. Below is the original text from my
previous e-mail.************************************************************************

I’ve installed SDL library on Fedora Core 6. I compiled and started to
run the test programs to verify SDL functionality. When I attempt to
run testoverlay, a window pops up and within a couple of seconds screen
goes blank. I have to reboot the machine.

I’ve installed SDL on RedHat 4.4 and Fedora Core 5 w/o any this problem.
I don’t know why FC 6 would cause this problem. The H/W is a Dell
optiplex 945 with a Intel 82Q963 integrated graphics card.

I’ve ran all the other test programs that come w/SDL and all work fine.
The overlay test seems teh only program that causes problems.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there a solution/work
around?

Someone responded to my earlier e-mail that there was a workaround, but
never e-mailed the workaround (or how to modify the code to work). I’ve
downloaded the sdl-2.1.13.tgz. However, when SDL is compiled, library
created is libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.2 (which I found odd that the 2.1.13 tgz
file compiles doesn’t actually compile to a 2.1.13 version).

Yes, Sam Lantinga mailed back that there is a workaround in the SDL 1.2.13.
Maybe just try again the SDL 1.2.13.tar.gz from the SDL page now, if this
does not work, try the latest SDL SVN version and see if that works.
