In the Linux version of SDL_image, can you compile/install SDL_image /without/
PNG support? (I.e., you don’t use libpng?)
I have a user for Tux Typing who is having difficulties loading our PNG files,
and I cannot figure out what the problem is. This user has Mandrake 8.0… so I
guess an alternative question (OT) would be, does anyone know if MD 8.0 lacks
libpng? ;-)–

you can compile SDL_Image with out png support, it’s in the make file… just take the -DLOAD_PNG
outta the CFLAGS. I did that under windows before downloading the libpng library and compiling it for windows.

Mandrake 8.0 comes with png support, but only the runtime is installed by
default. You’ll need to install the libpng-devel-*rpm off the second cd.
Then, you’ll probably need to remove the configure.cache file in the
directory that you’re trying to compile the application in, or else it’ll
