SDL_Mixer and SDL_Image memory loading?

Is it possible to load data into SDL_Mixer or SDL_Image by reading in a
memory block?

What I mean is, right now I have a pak file that I must first extract the
data, write it to the disk and then have Mixer or Image load that file.

Is there a way I can bypass this step?

If not, is it possible this could be a future addition to the libraries? I
think it could be quite a good one, since there are sometimes posts from
people asking how to package up their 100s of individual images and sounds
files and this would certainly be beneficial.

SDL_RWops, look at the SDL-sources (header files) or e.g. at
