Hi,
I have done the native midi support for windows. The interface should be
finished, but the implementation is one big bad hack 
There are
definetly bugs and memory leaks. But it works and is a start.
Native midi is only used when timidity does not initialize. The easiest
way to achieve that is to remove the timidity.cfg.
I don’t know if SDL_mixer still compiles on Unix, but it should.
If anyone has some more kowledge of the midiInterface for Windows then
please try to improve the code.
If someone out there could implement native midi for Linux, then do it
and include it.
