SDL_Net NG, i mean, IPv6

Hey SDL’ers,

This is a heads up regarding SDL_net and IPv6 support. I don’t really
have time to do it right now… more like I don’t have the money.
However I do think it’s possible and I’m open to any suggestions or
criticism about it, if you have any. The full thought is written on a
webpage at this location

Please ignore the fact that at the time of sending, the website is
highly incomplete.

Thanks

I think your voice will be much louder if you can “show us the
code”. Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but working multi-platform
code is much, much more valuable. Too many bloggers speculating
about things these days, you know – thus, the value of such talk
tends to zero. Sorry, it’s the market’s fault, economics
behaviour. Way too much talk these days. As an SDL user, I’m
rather more interested in working code that I can hack at.

Time and money is not that big a deal. SDL_net is not that big.
Under 100K. It’s not a high-level library. The problem is to get
it right and stable on multiple platforms. Of course, people also
need to be using IPv6, I suppose.

You seem to have already done some research. If you give the SDL
community a working implementation of an IPv6 SDL_net on one or
two platforms, there may be people interested in adopting it. If
there is enough interest and actual users, then I’m sure support
for other platforms will eventually be added. If there is little
or no interest, then sorry, tough luck. I guess you don’t know how
they do things on LKML.

For all we know, it may be too early and there is too little
community interest. If so, then you have no real alternative than
putting in the time and effort to champion this thing yourself.–
