SDL on Suse Linux 7.0

I’m having a problem running the SDL example programs - they all seem to just
lock up…
I understood that there was a problem with pthreads and clipping in 1.1.5, so I
got the
latest CVS version (today) and had the same problem. I have the strace output
but didn’t
want to post it to the list…

Do I need a special version of X to use SDL?

thanks for any advice.

Hi!

Well, not really lock-up… ctrl-c still cancels the program, but yes,
they don’t do anything.

oi, I’m not familiar with strace, but it didn’t made any sence to me

Do I need a special version of X to use SDL?
3 or 4, doesn’t matter…

It seems the SDL_Init locks up, and for all I know it has something to do
with threads, but I can’t find it, as other simple pthread programs work
with Suse 7.

Anybody?

Suse came with SDL-1.1.2, but I immediatly overwrote it with sdl-1.1.6
(cvs, 3 oct.)

John.

Anybody?

Does building from source work?

Can I log in to do remote debugging?
Please contact me directly at @slouken

I’m running Suse 7.0 too and don’t have any problems, neither with
1.1.4 nor with the latest CVS snapshot (all are build from source).

Try to install the new libc and depending files…
(available from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/7.0/)

Perhaps this might help…

I am running SDL quite fine with this … (didn’t try before updating -
sorry)

I build it from the source too, but never got it to work.
Did you use any special commands at the ./configure script?
And did you place it over some old sdl in /usr as prefix, or never
installed the old sdl 1.1.2 that came with suse 7?

Thanks,

Ahhh… we might be getting somewhere… what do you mean by depending
files? The SuSE bug report just says shlibs and libc - did you install
something
else as well?

ive downloaded and installed the shlibs and libc , but none of the others!

I didn’t install the 1.1.2 that came with SuSE, because I had already
SDL 1.1.3 in my home directory. I rebuild it, installed it and it
didn’t work. I then downloaded 1.1.4, which was the most recent version
at the time, build it without any special commands, just the usual
"autogen.sh;configure;make;make install" and everything worked.

Btw, I’ve just upgraded shlibs and libc anyway.

It doesn’t work.

Could some kind soul send me SDL 1.1.4 or tell me where to get it. I couldn’t
find it anywhere
and don’t know enough about CVS to dig out the relevant version (that’s the
source I’m looking
for).

thanks verymuch,

If anybody with the problem can let me log in, I’ll try to debug.

If I can, i’ll install the modem from my girlfriends pc and see if I can get

If you can somehow defeat the chicken/egg problem you can try the winmodem drivers that are out there for linux now.

Go to http://www.linuxdoc.org (I think) and look in the HOWTO’s for winmodem.

Thanks Dave,

I have searched high and low for the drivers for my modem as in the HOWTO for winmodems, it says that Motorola have drivers for the modem yet I couldn't find them anywhere! ive emailed the support at Motorola so hopefully they can help.

Mark.

PS. if anyone has any info, the modem is a : Motorola SM56 PCI WinModem

Thanx! :o)
