SDL ported to Palm's "WebOS"; Doom ported

Hardware accelerated ‘Doom’ comes to the Pre

Pre homebrew has certainly come a long way in its short but happy
life – and now it’s just gotten another little notch in its
belt. Apparently, with the release of webOS 1.3.5, Palm has included a
software library called SDL (or Simple Directmedia Layer) which allows
developers low-level hardware access – like the kind needed to tap
into accelerated 3D graphics. …

Looks like the patches are available here:

The SDL (and Doom port?) is thanks to a fellow on #webos-internals
(on irc.freenode.net) named ‘zsoc’.

DOOM Ported To Palm Pre, Is Hardware-Accelerated

My oh my. There have been many hints and clues in these closing weeks
of 2009 that GPU support for the Palm Pre is much, much closer than
expected, but until now there’s been nothing in the way of concrete
proof. That all changed with the recent release of webOS 1.3.5, which
zsoc (of Precorder fame) and destinal (who made the webOS Terminal)
from WebOS Internals have been poring over today. And what they’ve
discovered is starting to give us a pretty good idea of what Palm has
planned for their upcoming 2010 CES appearance: hardware-accelerated
graphics for webOS, via SDL.

And finally, JayCanuck on #sdl points us to:

Hardware Accelerated DOOM on webOS, for Real!

Regardless, this is a very impressive advancement for the webOS and
could signal a turning point in gaming on the Pre and Pixi in the
homebrew sector. DOOM for the 1.3.5 webOS devices out there, is now
available in Preware. For those not on Sprint, sorry, but you’ll have
to wait.

Enjoy!

PS - Where’s the Tux Paint port? And my free Pre? ;)–
