SDL scrolling tutorial

Hi all.
I’m in the process of completing a little demo for the 6th
cone3d(.gamedev.net) sdl tutorial. I had some trouble with the scrolling
being jerky. There was a thread here a while back about it (sorry for
not replying to your posts in it, David).

Anyway I’d like some people to test out the demo and tell me if you like
it, what needs to be improved, is the scrolling still crappy, etc, etc…

The demo can be downloaded here:

http://cone3d.gamedev.net/files/sdlgfx/lesson6.tar.bz2 (~2mb)
http://cone3d.gamedev.net/files/sdlgfx/lesson6.tar.gz (~3mb)

Note that both archives contain the same files. I only included the
.tar.gz for some people who can’t open it (like some windows users).

The scrolling tut works wonderfully! I’m using VC++6
on XP and it with one minor modification, the tut
works well. It’s something that I have been looking
for for a while! I’ve already modified the code to fit
my own needs. Great code.

Thanks Marius!

I’m using a font to bmp application i downloaded called Bitmap Font Builder (download.com). I’ve created some font bitmaps but they dont seem to work with the scrolling tut. I’m guessing that it has to do with alignment. Is it an alignment thing or do the bmps for the tut have to be “specially” designed?
Thanks.

Um…
Again a thing I can’t understand - how is it possible you think you can
program and are not able to think about a scrolling algorithm yourself? It
was one of the first things I did ever and creating an easy algorithm for
that doesn’t take as long as finding a good page with google …

Guess we finish to get used to anything. Even bad behavior. But 3
complains/nonconstructive critics in 3 mails today, that’s a bit much…

Sigh
