I’m just wondering how much work this will take to support - or switch
to… or if it’s being handled already. I’ve got some interest in seeing
this - either that or I’ll explore using “pango” - not sure at this time.

If you use “pango”, kiss the BeOS support bye-bye.
SDL has to remain multi platform. By using linux-oriented libs extensively,
it will be impossible to support BeOS. Windows may get supported as they are
a lot of hackers to do a port, but in the BeOS arena, we are not that many.
FYI, Freetype2 builds fine on BeOS.

Where did that come from? I don’t think pango was pentioned.
Anyway, when I get a chance, I’ll upload the work Michael Vance has already
done on a Freetype 2 based SDL_ttf library.

okay - the pango bit was me with my own object - and BeOS isn’t on the
list of systems I’m planning to port to… so for -me- it’s not an
issue… I was considering using pango versus using SDL_ttf, not mixing
the two g. (I work with Asian languages sometimes and using a font
toolkit with Asian support just makes sense to me
No I don’t think it’d be in SDL_ttf’s best interest to use pango… that
would be like forcing an X dependancy on a 2D graphics library for SDL…
VERY silly, not a good idea.

Actually the code was pretty good, I only had to do about half a rewrite.
