Is there a way to configure sdl, smpeg, xfree or my bagel toaster to
avoid this problem?

Marc

disabling asm optimisations in SDL-1.1.6 helps on my system - K6-2 500, Voodoo3
didn’t tried with SDL-1.1.7, becouse it looks like it has more bugs…
what version of xfree are you using? maybe you should also try to recompile

what version of xfree are you using?

4.01

maybe you should also try to recompile smpeg?

I did recompiled smpeg, but it was crashing, thenI did something
trivial: I reinstalled my system with the latest Mandrake, and now smpeg
works. The more I use Linux the more it is like Windows: the best way to
fix the os is to reinstall it from scratch. Scary…

I actually think the problem was caused by older non-threadsafe X libraries.

which SDL/smpeg? if you use just RPMs from distribution - yes, it works,
but it’s old versions…
can you run SDL-1.1.7 and smpeg-0.4.2 or latest CVS? for me it hang on
movies created by mp1e, but works with other mpegs… that is strangeOn Fri, Jan 12, 2001 at 11:25:51PM -0500, Marc Lavall?e wrote:

You’re right, even the latest Mandrake uses the old SDL/smpeg.

Nope! Same shit. :frowning:
We should ask the Mandrake team why they can’t upgrade SDL…

Marc

becouse newer versions are unstable? :->On Sat, Jan 13, 2001 at 05:51:48AM -0500, Marc Lavall?e wrote:

They shouldn’t be. If you have specific reproduceable problems,
please send bug reports to smpeg at lokigames.com

but we have reproductable problems all the time, and it’s more related
to SDL than smpeg, becouse smpeg with older SDL works OK… and problem
is related to AMD and XFree86-4 - Marc and I have Voodoo3, and my girlfriend
has Trio3D, but we all have AMD processors and XFree86-4.0.x, and we all
have problems with new SDL+any smpeg
I thought writing here about that problem is OK, so you know that SDL-1.1.7
is still buggy for us…On Sat, Jan 13, 2001 at 10:47:56AM -0800, Sam Lantinga wrote:
