I think this should be removed from the listing.

I read a bit of the creator website, and I’m still wondering if he is
seriously wrong or doing some trash jokes.

Pedophile’s Quest I:
Eager to Challenge the System.
Pedophile’s Quest is a 3rd-person 2D adventure game
that stars a pedophile who is trying to affect children.

Think this is alittle inappropriate!

Should be removed immediately!

How odd…

I would say remove it.

I seriously doubt anyone will miss it, it is probably just some
spam/prank anyway…On 17/07/07, Ryan C. Gordon wrote:

I think here in Oz it is illegal to access a site where this kind of thing is
available - accessing it directly definitely is. So, please definitely remove it
or else I might have to stop using SDL’s website…

Is there a review process for games, etc. that are to be listed or is it
automatic? (I couldn’t find the relevant page for submitting stuff). If not,
might it not be prudent to have one? Of course, I do realise that means
someone actually has to sit and check out things like new games, but how many
submissions would you get in a month?

It’s a question of balancing that with keeping your website accessible for some
of us in places with more restrictive content/access laws…

Okay, I took a look at it.

I’m not a lawyer, but I don’t think it’s illegal. There isn’t any
graphic content in the game as far as I can tell.

It doesn’t appear to be a satire, like any number of South Park episodes
might be…at least, if it is, it’s not really apparent. It does sort of
feel like it was meant to be a bad joke, like a junior high kid wrote it
for shock value…however, the guy’s website’s front page seems
perfectly serious about the motivations.

I don’t really want to get into the business of policing the news
postings database, nor do I feel I get to be the moral authority on
this. If I have to remove this, would I also have to remove other titles
that are intentionally in poor taste like Postal 2?

Games that explore uncomfortable areas without much delicacy or artistic
merit, like Super Columbine Massacre?

Political messages that might be disagreeable, like September 12th?

I’m really not advocating for child rape or anything, I just wonder what
the ramifications of the response might be. I would hope people would
see the title “Pedophile’s Quest,” wrinkle their nose, and move on
without needing me to protect their delicate sensibilities.

Jason brought up a good point, though, so as not to put visitors in an
questionably legal position, I’m removing it.

I asked my wife (she is a lawyer in japan) and she told me it wasn’t
illegal either in japan or in international laws (I cannot tell for
any particular country, but this is “general”).

It’s only illegal if there is images, insulting expressions or
incitations.

She suggested to create a policy for the libsdl website, which
clearly states what can be added to the list or not.

She also encouraged to categorize websites, as simple as possible,
like “suited for everybody” and “be warned, this can hurt your
sensibility”.

At last, she told me the best solution (speaking of the law) was to
totally remove the listing and encourage a community like freshmeat
to create an SDL section. Thus keeping SDL staff (hello ryan:) ) free
of any work or “risk”.

Thanks Ryan. Regardless of whether a specific listing is legal, we will
remove any that we feel is inappropriate for the SDL site. There are plenty
of other places to list games, the SDL site isn’t the appropriate place for
that kind of thing.

Thanks!

BTW, can you tell me where his website is? When I looked at the link to
libsdl.org, it has been deleted. I’m just curious and wondering what the
big fuss is all about.
