Unix, Font for use in own games, no copyright

Hi,

can anybody tell where i can get a font that:

  • looks cool
  • is free of copyright
  • i can use in games

Thanks for any hints,
Torsten.

Hi,

can anybody tell where i can get a font that:

Assuming you want TTF, since those are so common, and SDL can render
them using FreeType2 and SDL_ttf libraries…

  • looks cool
  • is free of copyright
  • i can use in games

#2 covers #3. :^) There are some free TTF fonts out there that are under
GPL. EFont, FreeFont, etc. I can dig up URLs.

As for #1 (“looks cool”), well… these are pretty basic "word processing"
style fonts.

I’d love to see some ‘fancier’ TTF fonts releases for Free (as in GPL)
some day. So many fonts have SO many copying restrictions.
Even worse, many “Font Download Sites” (that people put up on Geocities,
for example) just have hundreds of “*.ttf” files, with no copyright info,
no credits, etc. Technically, they’re pirating. sigh

fonts are free for commerical/private use.

You could take a look at Bob Pendleton’s polyfonts library

http://www.gameprogrammer.com/polyfonts/polyfonts.html

The lib come with a good choice of font licensed under gpl, lgpl and that
kind of thing.
Feel free to take a look. (I think Polyfonts is already packed with
larabie’s font)

I’ve been getting fonts from 007fonts.com for a few years now, they
clearly listed the license information, but I see they have now
employed a weird registration thing. Most of there fonts were made by
one guy and his site is http://www.larabiefonts.com/ and most of his

Hi,

I’m not sure what kind of fonts you’re looking for, but for a regular
style of fonts (sans and stuff like that) you can get the bitstream
fonts which were released a while back…

Hope this helps…
