What is the MOD format for sound files?

Hello out there,
using SDL_Mixer I see in the documentation that I can adjust the position where
to start playing for OGG, MP3 and MOD type sound files. This is too bad, since
right now I am using WAV files.
If anybody could give me a link where to get more information about this MOD
format it would be greatly appreciated.

The MOD format was very famous during the golden
age of the Amiga.

.mod is one of sound modules formats
under linux try soundtracker to get more ‘user look’ about it
( or any other tracker like dos fast tracker, impulse tracker )
