Where's my GL libraries?/

Ok, am using the SDL-devel, SDL_mixer-devel,
SDL_image-devel, SDL_net-devel which came preinstalled
with RedHat Linux 8.0.

That is good. I can compile the demos, games,
libraries, etc.

But I can’t compile GL programs because I don’t seem
to have GL/gl.h GL/glu.h GL/glut.h and the
corresponding libraries. Where can I get them for my:

Voodoo3 2000 TVout card?

I heard about mesa3D, but I don’t wanna mess around
with mesa3D yet. Any other better more realiable ways?__________________________________________________

[probably a off topic]

They should have come with the Redhat 8 install.

I say should because there is also a lot of stuff that should have come with
the RH8 install. I just “upgraded” from RH7.2 and I simply can’t can’t use
it. I know for a fact that the gl libraries and headers were available in
RH7.2 but I haven’t tried to compile opengl stuff in RH8

I expect that they may not have been part of the standard installation.
Check the Package Manager and see what RPMs were installed.

Can’t help you anymore than that though, I’m afriad… I’ve returned my RH
CDs and am waiting for Mandrake 9 instead(!)> -----Original Message-----

Hi,

Mesa runtime libs are installed by default in RH8. Probably the
devel version is not (Can’t say for sure, since I did not try to
compile any OpenGL program). You can install mesa devel version
from the CD.

As regards 3D acceleration, since I have a nvidia card, I had to
install Nvidia drivers to get respectable performance (Note that
you’ll still need to install mesa-devel to compile programs
though) you may have better luck with dri.

In RH 8.0 GL/gl.h & GL/glu.h are in the package XFree86-devel
GL/glut.h is in glut-devel

Not sure if voodoo cards are supported in X directly… you may need to dl
drivers specifically (Google is your friend), but at least with the 2
packages above you’ll be able to compile OpenGL apps.

Creativity is great, but plagiarism is faster.

Just as a word of warning, the Nvidia drivers should be the last thing
you install. Either that, or freshen / force-reinstall them every time
you update mesa. Files from one conflict with the other, and the Nvidia
ones have to end up in place at the end of all the installs.

This is for RH8 (as well as RH7.x and RH6.x) if not others. On Wed, 2003-02-12 at 07:12, Pallav Nawani wrote:
