3d Modeling tools

I am looking for some good 3d modeling tools/programs. All i’m used to
is using an old 3d studio max version i had on my old pc that i bought
from a friend. So if there is something that has the same look/feel
that’d be nice. Generally all i’ll be doing with it is designing simple
levels, texturing and rendering for use in a 2d game. So i need a
program to do that. I’m no longer using a pc though, i’m now on MacOS
X, so you can rule out windows stuff.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Moonlight Creator is a decent 3D modeller, and it seems to be making
quite a bit of progress of late.

I’ve used AC3D A lot. It’s not the best program, and it’s $40 closed
source shareware, but I’ve gotten pretty fast with it and have written a
loader for its mesh format.

I’m not sure if either has a Mac OS X version, though they both use
portable toolkits (raw OpenGL and Tk, respectively), so you might be in
luck.

Hi Mike,

You can use Infini-D. It’s very easy to learn and very like 3dsmax.
It’s simple near 3dsmax but some people use it as a professional
software. (www.rustboy.com)

Herbert

Hello,

Maybe you can have a look at Blender, which is now open source :

It’s exactly like vim - you will hate its interface from first time, but if you
are strong enough - you will feel the power later.

It’s GPL now.On Mon, Nov 25, 2002 at 07:10:06PM -0500, mike holmquist wrote:

Blender is nice, but very strange for users from other 3D DCC softwares…
It’s interface is very very unfriendly for most users… I still
recoment Infini-D
or even Maya (it’s a little different from 3dsmax, but you will get
surprised
with it’s power).

Thanks for your input. Infini-D sounds good, along with a few others
mentioned. i’ll check em out. I have heard a bit about Ac3d, mostly
though in your book John. As for maya, it’s a little to pricey for me.
