AMD and SDL?

I’m fixing to upgrade one of my old P5 100 systems to an AMD K6-2 550 on
an Epox AT mainboard - has anyone experienced any irregularities with
similar setups? It’s hard enough learning the ins and outs of a neat
library without wondering if perhaps your platform could be contributing
to problems. I know the K-7 has had some problems with Linux, but am not
aware of any complaints about the k6-2 series. I’d like to know before I
buy the board and cpu so I’ll know if I should upgrade or not.

Thanks,
Mike

Works fine on my K6-2 400.

Works fine too, on my K6-2 450 with the new core (the one who needs less
voltage).

I know the K-7 has had some problems with Linux,

damn, what kind of problems ? I’ll upgrade to a K7 in 2 weeks…

I have an AMD K6-2 500 with an Epox G2 mainboard, have been using it for
almost six months, and can’t say there are any problems. Most of the
problems you get re: SDL will probably involve the video card…–

Cool. I’ll be using the C2 (little difference except less cache than the
G2) since I have AT cases to recycle, but I feel much more comfortable
now. I plan on getting a Voodoo3 2000 video card, but Linux support for
that has been excellent so I don’t forsee any difficulties there
either… It’ll provide more motivation to explore SDL with OpenGL…
drool…

Recently one of the linux sites did an investigation into AMD issues under
Linux and could not find anyone that had serious problems with the Athlon.
They concluded that there may have been some early issues with the Athlon
(because of the rumors they had heard), but the current kernels should be
fine with it. If anyone here knows different, I’d definitely like to hear
it.

As far as the K6-2 itself, I’ve been using them for quite a while without
any problems whatsoever. I know others that have as well. I cannot
comment on the Epox motherboard, I haven’t used one.–

I’ve never had any troubles with my AMD K6-2 300. It’s my main development
system (although, the extra speed of my new laptop may be disputing that
sometime in the future ;)On Sun, 18 Jun 2000, Michael Vanecek wrote:
