What kind of video card do you have? If you debug the programs yourself,
you should be able to find out why this is.

Hi,
Actually I found out that the problem was in setting env. variable DISPLAY to “:0.0” instead of
"unix:0.0" as it appears in Redhat 6.1 X Servers.(DOH!)
I found this out in mtv help file which says this is reqd. for DGA to work.
Actually DGA works(tested with another program) even with “unix:0.0”,SO is it something with
SDL??(And Maybe this is worth putting up somewhere for others)

Now the next problem!!When SDL does switch to fullscreen it doesn’t return my screen back to
me.Instead X crashes and I get a blank screen and I have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del and hear only sound
as a confirmation that my m/c is rebooting.

BTW I have a Cirrus Logic 5440 card(Do I hear somebody laugh?) and my friend who has the same card
has the same crashing problem.I wasn’t so with SDL 0.99.

Thanx for Ur time.

Have you upgraded your X server since it last worked?
Can you send me this card? I’ve had this reported, but I can’t reproduce
it with any hardware we have here.

I have the same problem - when i try to get anything in fullscreen

under root, i get blank screen and all i can do is sync, umount and reboot
via magic sysqrc. I have S3 Virge clone. This error occured when i try to
play tycoon demo from root.

I have a ViRGE 4MB too, and have always gotten the same results. I’m
using XFree86 3.3.5. But I don’t need to magic-sysrq the thing to stop
it, or so it would seem. Apparently, I can still switch virtual
consoles, and kill X by Ctrl-C-ing the console where I did a startx. I
set the thing to suid root but nothing happens. Run the program as root
and we get the soft screen lock.> On Tue, 21 Dec 1999, Sam Lantinga wrote:
