Does documentation exist for SDL_net?

Hello all,

I’ve been stumbling around trying to use SDL_net for a little while, i was just wondering if there was documentation of any kind that deals with it. Thanks!

SDL_net.h explain it perfectly.
Aynway follow me any question as I have been using it for around a
year in arianne ( http://www.arianne.cx )

Header files comments are NOT documentation. I’m seriously
thinking about writting proper docs+examples for this, as there
is quite a few things the header file is very vague about.
Hopefully I’ll find time to do this after the project i’m
working.

om.

p.s. don’t get me wrong, I think sdl_net is great its just
a bit tricky if you’re new to it, as I was almost a year
ago now.> ----- Original Message -----

I’ve tried digging through the source files, but the best way i’ve learned
how to use it is hacking away at the sample chat program. I still don’t know
how to use it, I just copy and paste from chat.cpp & chatd.c  . That
would be awesome if you could work on the docs, let me know when you get
aound to that!

PS - speaking of SDL_net being tricky, do you know why when you set a client
to connect to a local server with the hostname localhost, instead of your
local IP, that communication with clients outside of localhost is
impossible? i found that odd…> ----- Original Message -----

I don’t understand exactly but are you saying that you execute two
client on different machines to connect to localhost and it don’t run,
is it?

Ok, this is the expected behaviour, use instead the IP ( and don’t use
neither 127.0.0.1 )

no, when you’re running the server on a machine, and you connect to that
server locally using hostname localhost as a connection destination, and
then connect to it remotely, the locally connected client cannot communicate
with a remote client. if you use the IP while connecting locally, then
you’re able to communicate with remote clients. whew> ----- Original Message -----

Well why not join the SDLdoc Project then? Experience the joy of docbook and
the pain of the toolchain.
No seriously, its great fun:)
However, if you are seriously considering writing documentation then you might
aswell make it part of sdldoc.

And all you other troubled souls? Waking up in a cold sweat, wanting to
document something but you just don’t know what? SDLdoc is for you!On Tue, Dec 19, 2000 at 11:25:33AM -0000, Oisin Mulvihill wrote:
