Functions for Virtual Files (offtopic)

It would be cool, if every Library for SDL had virtual Functions. With virtual Functions i mean
Functions that load Pictures, Wave Files … from memory, instead of loading them from Disk.
Lets go into the past :=)
At the time MIDAS was the Nr. 1 SoundSystem, the most demopeople said:
“MIDAS is cool but, i have to save Modules as normal “.MOD” Files and so
everybody can rip them.Even if i encode them, at the End i have to decode them to a TEMP-
Directory before using them.”

As far as I remember this was not a restriction from MIDAS, I once wrote
a replacement for the MIDAS filehandling code that could read from a
compressed/encrypted datafile without needing to decode to a TEMP
directory…—

Some people did that, but it was never put into the official release i think.
Nowadays MIDAS is not the Nr. 1 MusicInterface, today on WINDOWS it is BASS
and FMOD.

Why go through all that trouble to keep people from extracting your datafiles?
(Personally I quite enjoy listening to demo music separately)

ME TOO :=) but many democoders/gamecoders don?t like other people
ripping, stealing, using their grafix :=) When i worked hard to develop a
game, i don?t want that anybody else uses my grafix !!!> On Friday 13 April 2001 14:11, you wrote:

Well, it’s probably that having lots of seperate files (instead of a
zipfile) doesn’t look “professional” :)—

Lots of little files are slower and less space-efficient.–
