GSoC wrapup comments

Just an FYI, I’ve posted my end-of-GSoC comments here:

Ryan,

I found your report interesting, but I wanted to point out something
that I think is worth fixing in your report in order to insure that no
confusion results. Holmes worked on the iPhone port, while Darren did
the DS support.

I was especially interested in how your projects moved forward during
the summer. Thank you for the summary.

Whoops, late-night cut and paste error.

(Sorry, Holmes and Darren!)

No problem, I know how that goes =)

Just a heads up on the alleged new NinDS.

The ‘guess’ is a release 2nd Oct.

Allegedly it’ll have music playback capabilities, inbuilt camera and
foo. No doubt, as it’s unannounced, best to take the news with a pinch
of salt. But figured I’d let you (and the list) know of this report’s
existence. ElReg’s linking to an article in Japanese, which is why I’m
not citing the ‘source’. I’m assuming it’s an accurate translation.

All the best!

Pete.

Yeah, I heard the rumor yesterday… Hope it’s backwards-compatible, if
it is real. A camera would be interesting =)

My only beef with the NDS is the requirement for WEP only wifi.
I would be willing to trade in my current NDS and resume homebrew dev if
they offered WPA.

I must admit I downgraded my WAP to WEP a couple of times to do online play
with Animal Crossing and it was fun. But I refuse to leave my WAP at WEP for
long periods of time just to play games.

NDS 3rd gen really really need’s WPA support!. If they add this I will
convert/buy in a heart beat. I just need the official anouncement and I will
save

As I recall, someone was working on a hacked version of the firmware to
make it support WPA (at least partially), but Nintendo gave him a Cease
& Desist.

Pops out of nowhere

Stupid decision not to include WPA, their main competitor (the PSP)
supports it.

I agree… and this comes from Nintendo fanboy… and yes I have a PSP love
it and haven’t played my NDS since.

Though that will prob change once Spore NDS comes out

While I am a nintendo fanboy and at the same time flaming it and Wii… What
is going on with codes?!?

I respect and can completely understand their “purpose” when it comes to
requiring user codes, but I doubt it’s pain equals it’s purpose.

Finding a “friend” to play NDS Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, etc is just down
right painful and limiting. I miss the days when you can just connect to a
central server and play random people.

Granted I haven’t done online play with PSP yet, but from I hear it’s a lot
less painful.

Anyway flame over. Still love the NDS, it’s hardware and many of it’s games.
Just wish some of it would change.

Also pre-paid for the wii version of Animal crossing lol. I bought my fiance
an engagement ring, she bought me a Wii just for AC Wii… 2 years later
finally glad they’re going to release it  Yes it’s that addictive lol
