I did a quit search of my email history and didn’t see any mention of
a build for Intel macs being worked on… is that because this isn’t
necessary, or is there really actually a build on the way?

There’s an Xcode Universal project in CVS, for use with Xcode 2.2.
That will build a universal binary for both ppc and i386. Last I
checked, the binary on the main site was still ppc only.
